How to Install Car Graphics

Can't afford a new car in these tough economic times? How about a car remodel? Changing the way your car looks can be as simple as applying vinyl car graphics to the surface of your car. Car decals can be applied to the hood, windows, side panels, and even the bumpers. The best part is you can do this yourself. Read on to learn how!

Things You Will Need:
Car Graphics
Masking Tape
Soft Cloth
Plastic Squeegee
Chalk
A Freshly Washed Car

Step 1
Pick out your car decals online or at any local sign shop in your area. You will need to know the exact measurements of the area you want to place the graphics on so you can order the proper size. Decide on the colors and fonts you will choose. If you are ordering online you can request a sample from the supplier to make sure that the graphic will match the color of your car. If you are using a sign shop locally take a your car to them and the designer can help you choose the size, font, color,and placement for the decal.

Step 2
Once you have received the proper sized graphics you are ready to begin the installation process. Its time to make sure the surface of you car is washed and squeaky clean. Let your car dry completely to ensure there is no residue of moisture. Do not wax your car as this we hinder the adhesive from sticking to the surface of your car.

Step 3
With the adhesive transfer tape still attached to the graphic, place the graphic into the desired position. You can tack the graphic in place with a little piece of masking tape, this will allow you step back and see if you like the position. Once it is where you like, outline the graphic using chalk. This will will help you keep things aligned when you are adhering the decal to the cars surface.

Step 4
Start with the left upper corner and begin peeling off the paper transfer tape (if you are left handed you might want to start with the upper right hand corner). Make sure you use and your chalk marks as a guide. This will guarantee proper placement and you will be glad you took the time to mark it out.

Step 5
Once you have adhered the upper left hand corner use your left hand to hold the graphic in place as you pull the transfer tape slowly away with your right hand. This is where I like to use the squeegee to gently push out any air bubbles as you go. Make sure that go slow with this process as this will help you avoid wrinkles and creases. Take as much time as you need, remember you are not in a race! Once the transfer tape is removed completely use a soft cloth to rub over the surface of the graphic and push out any remaining air bubbles.

Step 6
Now that the graphic is completely placed remove the masking tape and wipe away the chalk marks using a damp cloth. Do not wash your car for the next few days as you want to give time for the decal to fully adhere. Step back and admire your work for a job well done! Now all of your friends will be wanting you to remodel their car as well.
